If you’re asking yourself which direction you should take in your career, Principality Building Society may have the answer

You may have seen one of its branches on your local high street or recognise the name through its partnership with the Welsh Rugby Union. What you may not know is that Principality is the UK’s sixth largest building society, with over 70 branches and more than £9bn of customer assets.

For a building society that has been around for nearly 160 years, Principality remains firmly focused on the future. Nowhere is this more evident than in its passion to help people from a wide range of academic backgrounds develop rewarding careers.

Graduate opportunities

Principality was one of the founding employers to join the Welsh Financial Services Graduate Programme, a two-year, full-time programme of work, training and study, and is happily reaping the rewards.

“The energy, enthusiasm and drive we see exhibited by the graduates placed with us never ceases to amaze me,” says Mike Fenton, Principality’s Senior Manager for Leadership and Talent. “They have exceeded our expectations in the quality of work they’ve produced and their positive attitude.” It will come as no surprise that next year Principality will launch a Graduate Development Programme of its own.

In-house development

But Principality’s focus isn’t limited to graduates. It is also investing in the development of its own people through a robust apprenticeship programme run in partnership with Cardiff & Vale College. The programme offers apprenticeships at a number of levels, covering a wide range of areas from customer service, business and administration to banking in the UK. Principality sees apprenticeships playing a key role in the continuous professional development of its employees.

These graduate and apprenticeship initiatives work alongside the existing in-house development opportunities. The business supports employees through a wide range of FCA-regulated financial services qualifications, financial certificate degrees and even master’s degrees.

To the business, personal development is more than just gaining qualifications. It is about building more rounded interpersonal skills, a broader knowledge of the business and the skills and capabilities to build your career as you move up the ladder.

Joining Principality

As a business, Principality is going through the biggest change programme in its history, transforming and upgrading technology, delivering modernised products and services and enhancing its customer experience. So, it’s an exciting time to join a company that prides itself on a progressive and empowering culture, where employees are encouraged to develop their skills and knowledge.

Whether you’re at the start of your career, finding your way in financial services or looking for a new employer, Principality’s careers website is a good place to start. There you’ll find information about the company and what it’s like to work there, as well as details of all current vacancies. It will also include details of the apprenticeship and graduate recruitment programmes when they are launched in 2018.
