Pedalling with Purpose: Putting People First at The QHotels Collection

By Rosie Frisby

At The QHotels Collection, our people are more than employees, they are the heart and soul of everything we do. From the friendly faces welcoming our guests to the committed teams supporting behind the scenes, it’s our people who bring our values to life every single day.

Our culture is shaped by five powerful values — INDIVIDUAL, PROUD, CURIOUS, PASSIONATE, and TOGETHER — and we see these values in action not just in our hotels, but in the way we support each other, our communities, and our industry. This was never more evident than during our recent participation in Hospitality Action’s 2025 Summer Cycle, a 103-mile charity ride that united our team in an inspiring display of grit, heart, and shared purpose.

Why Hospitality Action Matters, Why We Ride

Hospitality Action is far more than a charity; they are a lifeline for those working in the hospitality industry. Since 1837, they’ve offered financial, and emotional support to individuals navigating everything from sudden illness and family breakdowns to addiction, burnout, and bereavement.

They’re our partner in our own Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), providing confidential support and specialist guidance to colleagues when it’s needed most.

When we support Hospitality Action, we’re standing beside our own. Because in an industry built on care, service, and people, no one should have to face hard times alone.

Riding with Purpose – and Living Our Values

On Monday 23rd June, four exceptional team members took on the 103-mile Summer Cycle challenge, navigating the rolling hills and winding countryside of Hampshire.

  • David Rowley, General Manager, Crewe Hall Hotel & Spa
  • Toni Whittingham, Learning & Development Partner
  • Patrick Lynch, General Manager, The Telford Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort
  • Dean Saunders, General Manager, Dunston Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort

What they demonstrated during the ride was far more than physical endurance, it was a showcase of our values in motion:

INDIVIDUAL – Each of our riders brought something unique to the challenge, their own motivations, personal stories, and leadership styles. They each embodied our belief that every person has value and something to contribute, and that diversity of experience is our strength.

PROUD – Completing a 103-mile ride is no small feat, but so is showing up with commitment, passion, and heart. They cycled not just for personal achievement, but to represent QHotels and what we stand for. And in raising £3,853, they made a direct, tangible difference to lives across our industry.

CURIOUS – Training for this event involved more than just physical prep, it was about understanding the why. Our team took the time to learn about Hospitality Action’s impact, share stories of those helped by their support, and connect the ride to a deeper purpose. This curiosity fuels what drives us to keep evolving and improving, as individuals and as a business.

PASSIONATE – Whether climbing steep hills or pushing through fatigue, our riders showed resilience, energy and courage. But beyond the physical ride, their passion was about people, showing up for colleagues, standing up for the industry, and making a statement about what really matters to us as a team.

TOGETHER – This event wasn’t about individual glory; it was a team effort. Our riders supported one another every step of the way. And back at our hotels, teams rallied behind them with donations, messages of support, and social media shoutouts. It was a whole-business moment, showing that when we pull together, we can do extraordinary things.

A Word from Leadership

Claire Cregan, HR Director at The QHotels Collection, shared her praise:

I’m incredibly proud of our General Managers and Learning & Development Partner for stepping up and cycling more than 100 miles in support of the incredible work done by Hospitality Action. At The QHotels Collection, we deeply value our partnership with them and the support they provide through our EAP. Congratulations to all the riders, especially Team Q, for completing such a fantastic challenge. You are truly amazing!”

This ride wasn’t just a moment of fundraising; it was a moment of truth. It proved that we don’t just talk about our values, we live them. Demonstrating that we are a business where you’re seen, supported, and inspired to grow.
