New app means you can now quit your job with a text message

By J&C Team

Now, the rules state that you should never break up with someone via text message, but no one said anything about quitting your job. Handing in your notice can be very awkward, as well as extremely nerve-wracking. Not everyone has the time to do a viral YouTube video, so designers have developed an app which allows employees to quit their jobs, without even having to be in the same building as their bosses!

The Quit Your Job app, available now for iPhone, is obviously meant as a tongue-in-cheek gesture, of course, but could also be used legitimately provided your boss has a really great sense of humour.

And here’s the description that comes with it:

Are you sick of paper pushing? Tired of cubicle kvetching? Ready to quit, but dreading those awkward parting words? Finally, an app that lets you terminate your employment with just a few taps.

Once you decide it’s time to quit, the app gives you three options to send within a message.

1. I’m sick of the corporate world

2. I want to get rich

3. I found a new job.

After that, you sit back and let technology do what you were too scared to do in person.

The team behind BreakUp Text teamed with job-matching company TheLadders to produce this one — so after you send your resignation text, you’ll then be prompted to begin searching for a new position. And if you decide you hate that one too, you can just fire up the app and do it all over again!

We’re not convinced this is the best way to go about leaving your job, especially if you expect a shining reference after, but it’s certainly funny if you think your boss can take it!
