The Department of Estates and Facilities Management (EFM) at the University of Sheffield is the largest Professional Services
Department at the university, employing over 720 staff across a range of professions and specialist areas.
Now is an exciting time to take up a leadership role within the department. Following the appointment of a new Director of
Estates and Facilities Management in March 2024, EFM is entering a transformational period with further leadership
appointments in the department that will shape the team and culture for many years to come. There are exciting challenges
ahead, with the development of a new estate strategy, significant capital investment, drive to net zero, asset management and
space optimisation, engineering and maintenance delivery, and campus services provision.
Reporting to the Director of EFM, the Associate Director of EFM: Engineering & Maintenance is responsible for leading on the
strategic direction and operational management of the estate maintenance and engineering infrastructure across the
university’s large-scale and complex estate portfolio, which serves as a crucial enabler to the realisation of the University’s
Vision and Strategic Plan.
You will deliver a customer centric, performance driven service that offers demonstrable best value, through a
multidisciplinary in-house team consisting of circa 140 staff, as well as a diverse spectrum of contractor partners. We are
seeking an individual with significant career experience in engineering leadership roles across large scale, operational
property portfolios, together with a track record of planning and executing transformation programmes resulting in
performance improvement in the areas of engineering, maintenance and estate compliance. The role calls for a leader that is
a natural collaborator with excellent stakeholder management skills and a customer-centric approach to delivering
engineering and maintenance services.
