Have you considered a career in care?

By Right at Home UK

Maybe your children have flown the nest or you’re looking for a change in career? Perhaps you are looking for a part-time job now your son or daughter has started school, or you care for a family member and want to turn your skills into a new career?

We understand that starting a new career can be daunting, so we’ve put together some of the frequently asked questions we receive on becoming a Right at Home CareGiver.

Q. Do I need previous experience?

A. No – if you’re a kind and caring person then that’s all we ask! We provide full and thorough training which includes shadowing existing CareGivers on visits to Clients, so you know exactly what is expected of you when you are out in the local community delivering care and feel confident in your new role.

Q. Are caring roles only for middle aged women?

A.We get asked this a lot, and the answer is no! We employ both male and female CareGivers of all ages.

Q. Do CareGivers only provide care in someone’s home?

A. Whilst we provide care to people living in the comfort of their own home, quite often our CareGivers will support Clients with activities outside of the home, such as a trip to the shops or the hairdressers. We get to know our Clients, their interests, likes and dislikes, and tailor their care packages accordingly to meet their needs and ultimately, improve their quality of life.

Q. What types of services do CareGivers provide?

A. At Right at Home, we offer a whole range of services from supporting people to attend local community events and helping people transition from hospital-to-home through to personal care and full-time live in care. You can find out more about the different services we offer here.

Q. Do you get paid for travel time?

A. Yes – our CareGivers are paid travel time between Clients. We also ensure your working days are properly planned with sufficient travel time allocated between Client visits. All of our visits are a minimum of one hour so you or your Clients don’t feel rushed.

Q. Are there opportunities to progress?

A. Absolutely! As well as a dedicated team of CareGivers who are delivering care to the community, every Right at Home has an office-based team which includes a Care Coordinator and Registered Manager. We always try to promote within our existing team, and usually it’s experienced CareGivers who have made the transition into these office-based roles.
