Build a Bright Future

By Hanson

Want to be involved in a company that takes an active role in shaping the country? Hanson may be the answer...

It may be hard to think of the quarrying and building materials industry and feel a buzz of excitement, but at Hanson we’re working to change all that. The most important way we’re doing that is through the people who work for us.

Working at Hanson is about being part of something bigger – everyone is part of one team that is committed to achieving the company’s vision and feels a connection to the business’s values. Our staff understand that what we do is so much more than “just” produce materials – we are vital to ensuring roads can be built and maintained, we form the foundations of buildings such as hospitals and we are part of major projects that will shape the future of the UK.

UK-wide operation

At 300 sites across the UK – including the company headquarters in Maidenhead, Berkshire, and the customer services centre in Syston, Leicestershire – Hanson employs more than 3,500 people in a wide range of roles from production workers, plant operators, technicians and drivers to sales, IT, engineering and finance managers.

Hanson supports all colleagues with personal and professional development, and provides opportunities for everyone to reach their aspirations and gain experience across a range of professions. With regional commercial managers who joined us as concrete plant supervisors and members of the executive team who started as quarry operatives, it’s easy to see that our commitment to people is exceptional.

Opportunities for all

Hanson provides opportunities for all staff to be involved with cross-business groups, allowing them to provide valuable insight and input into a range of topics such as fairness and inclusion, health and wellbeing, graduate and apprentice recruitment, and development and mentoring. We are also part of industry-wide groups that focus on operational and sustainable excellence.

But we also recognise life isn’t just about work. Our management programmes actively encourage teams to seek external opportunities, where they can utilise skills they don’t necessarily get to display every day to help individuals or groups within their local communities. At our customer service centre in Syston, employees are encouraged to nominate a charity they feel a personal connection to and regular events take place to raise support for their chosen cause.

Diverse roles

Hanson couldn’t do all it does without a multi-talented and diverse team. If you want to work in an organisation that has a clear vision and recognises people are at the heart of what they do, whether you’re looking for a career in sales, operations, HR, finance, customer service, procurement, logistics, production, administration, health and safety or IT, Hanson could be your next step.

on-the-job training

Do you have the ambition to be a future leader?

Hanson runs a number of challenging but rewarding trainee management programmes, including craft and skill apprenticeships, higher apprenticeships where you can earn while you learn with the University of Derby, and graduate management programmes.

These programmes give you exposure to all areas of the business, providing the chance to gain experience across departments and business lines or in a chosen specialism.

Each one is designed to attract, develop and retain exceptional individuals who will become the company’s future leaders. Over the course of the two to five year programmes, you’ll get the chance to participate in wider company development activities and project delivery, as well as commit time to your professional development in role. Hanson will support you with a variety of training modules and one-to-one coaching.
