York St John University is an ambitious, modern university at the heart of historic city of York and there’s never been a more exciting time to join us. After investing over £110 million in our campus and facilities, establishing four new schools and developing a suite of attractive, contemporary courses, we’ve seen the biggest rise across all English universities in recent years.
Central to our ambition is commitment to academic excellence. Over a third of our research is already considered world leading or internationally excellent. Our ambition is to increase our capacity to deliver world leading research, particularly research that has a significant real world impact.
We’ve also created the conditions for quality teaching. We’re third in the UK for the proportion of our academics with formal teaching qualifications, we’re a consistent Stonewall Top 100 employer and we hold the Social Enterprise Gold Mark for Responsible Business Practice.
As part of our expansion, we are seeking to appoint a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) in Sports Physiotherapy as part of an exciting partnership with York City Knights Rugby League Club. As a Graduate Teaching Assistant you will complete your PhD in three years whilst contributing a maximum of 6 hours contact time per week to the taught curriculum on our sport and exercise science related programmes. Up to 4 additional hours per week shall be set aside for teaching-related activities.
The role is designed to provide an opportunity for a mix of applied work, teaching, and research. The successful candidate will work within the School of Science, Technology, and Health in these three areas. First, they will be expected to provide high quality sport and exercise science support to our community partners via our Yorkshire Academy of Sport initiative. Second, they will support the delivery of teaching and learning related activities across our undergraduate programmes. This includes teaching and providing tutorial support, as well any necessary preparation, assessment and marking of assessment as required by the School. Third, they will undertake a PhD within our Physical Activity and Cardiovascular Health research group. A background in sport and exercise science is considered essential, as is experience of offering sport and exercise science support in an applied setting. Any appointment will be conditional upon acceptance to a PhD programme at York St John University.
