The best kept secret

By Wolseley

There’s never been a more exciting time to work at Wolseley UK. Could you help the company shape its future?

Without even knowing it, you’ve almost certainly come across Wolseley UK products, if you’ve ever flushed a loo, snuggled next to a radiator on a cold day or bought a frozen meal from the supermarket.

Wolseley UK is part of Ferguson plc, the world’s largest trade distributor of plumbing and heating products to professional contractors. It is one of the FTSE100’s biggest kept secrets – specialist suppliers of all those things that form part of our everyday lives, from air conditioners and boilers, to cisterns and showers.

In the UK, Plumb Center, Parts Center, Pipe Center, and Climate Center – some of Wolseley’s brands – supply thousands of products every day to trade customers, who then fit out the plumbing, heating or refrigeration systems across the country.

Time of change

This is an exciting time to be joining Wolseley UK. In September 2016, the company announced a major programme to transform the way it serves its customers, following a wide-ranging review of its plumbing and heating operations.

Wolseley has now brought its plumbing and heating businesses together under the Wolseley banner. Its ambitious plan, to be the first choice specialist merchant for customers, is based on a real understanding of what those customers value and how the company can help them grow their businesses and achieve more.

Join a brilliant team

Wolseley UK really values its staff and these changes wouldn’t be possible without them. The company knows it has a lot to do if it is to achieve its vision for its customers, so having the right team is essential.

If you’re up for the challenge, with bags of enthusiasm and a passion for customer service, why not join Wolseley UK on its journey as it moves from being a pretty good business, to a really great one?

The technical skills you might need, and experience, will vary by role. But there are a range of roles to suit your skills. Those who work in the company’s branches are at the forefront of the business, providing the exceptional levels of service needed for the company to grow.

Out in the field, where no two days are the same, you can learn on the job through practical experience. You need to have a strong work ethic, enjoy working as part of a team and, for management roles, the ability to lead and build a team through great interpersonal skills.

Wolseley UK also has centres in Ripon, North Yorkshire; Marston Gate, Bedfordshire and Worcester, where colleagues process customer orders, drive sales and deliver great service. They take care of key account customers as well as promoting services to new customers. These centres handle thousands of calls each week and millions of orders every year.

In every area of the business, everyone is focused on customers and determined to provide prompt and efficient service.

A thriving workplace

Wolseley UK wants its people to feel they can take ownership of a project or initiative and see it through to a successful conclusion. And, of course, it expects all employees to live and breathe its respect values.

In return, when you work at Wolseley UK, it offers a range of flexible working patterns and a great benefits package and pension.

There’s never been a better time to be part of one of the biggest companies in the UK. If you have a passion for delivering excellent customer service, enjoy being part of a team and thrive on interaction with customers, then you’re sure to find a place at Wolseley UK.

Flexibility and potential

Wolseley UK recruits graduates and apprentices on a yearly basis. Alex Pryce, below, joined in October 2015 and is now working as a key accounts manager in the Plumb and Parts Center, south London.

“I’m really excited about where I could go within the company,” he says. “There are so many possibilities and a lot of flexibility and potential to move within the business in the future. The company is so supportive. I really do think the career possibilities with Wolseley are unlimited.”

Sales Superstar

National account manager Selina Blanchard was our Salesperson of the Year last year. Her speciality is winning new business, and she puts her achievement down to two key factors: a loyal customer base and enthusiastic colleagues.

“In my three and a half years with Wolseley UK, I’ve worked hard to engage customers and colleagues at all levels. From senior managers to installers, it’s vital to understand all their needs to enable us to make the most of support and sales potential.

“It makes a big difference.”
