Swizzels Matlow

Swizzels Matlow Ltd

By J&C Team

In 1928 Alfred and Maurice Matlow launched Matlow Bros. Ltd making jelly sweets in a small factory in London. Five years later they were joined by David Dee to form Swizzels Ltd. It was here where Rainbow Drops and Fizzers were first created! In 1940, battered by the London Blitz during the Second World War, both companies decided to relocate to the current premises in New Mills.

Love Hearts, New Refreshers and Drumsticks were launched soon after and continue to be iconic brands today.

Swizzels Matlow is still run by the Matlow and Dee families and we manufacture over 200 different products with a turnover over £65 million.

Some facts:

We made over 5,000 tonnes of chewy products last year, that’s approximately the weight of 1,100 elephants.

The amount of Love Hearts produced every year stretches 32,500 miles or 1.5 times around the world

Last year we made over 25 million jelly bags which is enough to fill the Manchester United Stadium 238 times

We produced over 14 million bags of Rainbow Drops last year that’s enough to fill 25 sized Olympic sized swimming pools
